Privacy Policy

Rank Peek ("we", "us", "the extension") is a Chrome and Edge browser extension that looks up where a website ranks for a given keyword on Google. This page explains exactly what data we collect, why, and how long we keep it.

We wrote this policy to match what the product actually does, not a generic template. If something here ever stops matching the real behavior of the extension or backend, that's a bug in this document and we'll fix it.

1. Who we are

Rank Peek is operated by Owen, an independent developer ("we", "our"). Contact: privacy@getrankpeek.com.

2. What data we collect

2.1 Account information

Email address only. You sign in with a magic-link code sent to your email. We do not ask for or store a password.
We use your email to identify your account, enforce free-tier usage limits (so one person can't create unlimited free accounts), and, if you subscribe, to link your subscription status.

2.2 Your rank queries

Every time you check a ranking (domain + keyword you enter, or a keyword you right-click on a page), we store:

The domain and keyword you queried
The region/language you queried in
The rank result (the position number, or "not found")
The date and time

This is stored on our servers, tied to your account, and kept indefinitely — this is what powers the rank history on paid plans. You can request deletion of this history at any time (see Section 6).

We do not store or show you the full search results page. We only extract and return the ranking position of the domain you asked about. Our data provider's terms require that we never resell or display raw, unmodified search-result data, so by design our systems never keep or expose the list of competing sites, titles, or URLs from a search, only the single number that answers "where do I rank."

2.3 IP address (briefly, for abuse prevention only)

We temporarily use your IP address to prevent abuse of the free tier (e.g., one person spinning up many free accounts to dodge the daily limit). This is stored for at most 25 hours and then automatically deleted, we do not keep a permanent log of IP addresses tied to your account.

2.4 What we deliberately do NOT collect

Your browsing history. The extension does not read, log, or transmit the URLs you visit.
Page content. We do not inject scripts into the pages you browse and do not read page content, the only exception is the optional right-click feature, which sends only the exact text you selected (as the keyword to check), nothing else on the page.
Passwords. We never ask for or store one.
Payment details. Subscriptions are handled entirely by Creem, our payment processor and merchant of record. Creem collects and processes your payment information directly, we never see or store your card number, billing address, or other payment details. Creem's own privacy policy governs that data: creem.io/privacy.

2.5 Extension permissions

The extension requests only three browser permissions: activeTab, storage, and contextMenus. We do not request access to all websites (<all_urls>), and we do not run on every page you visit, the extension is inactive unless you click its icon or use the right-click menu.

3. How we use your data

We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data to anyone, in any form.

4. Who we share data with

We do not share your data with data brokers, advertisers, or any other third party. We do not currently run any analytics or tracking scripts in the extension or on our backend.

5. Where your data is stored

Our backend runs on Cloudflare's global network, which may process or store data in multiple countries depending on where you access the service from. Cloudflare and Creem both maintain their own data-protection commitments for EU/EEA users (Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable).

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

Access the data we hold about you
Correct inaccurate data
Delete your account and associated query history
Export your query history (Pro/Team plans can already do this via CSV export; free-plan users can request an export by emailing us)
Object to or restrict certain processing

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@getrankpeek.com. We'll respond within 30 days. Deleting your account deletes your email and all associated query history from our active systems.

7. Data retention

Account/email: kept until you delete your account.
Query history: kept indefinitely while your account is active, deleted when you delete your account or request deletion.
IP address (rate-limiting only): auto-deleted within 25 hours, always.

8. Children's privacy

Rank Peek is a professional SEO tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we'll delete it.

9. Cookies

The browser extension itself does not use cookies, it stores minimal preferences (like your default domain for right-click checks) locally in your browser using the standard chrome.storage API, which never leaves your device. Our marketing website may use a minimal, privacy-respecting analytics cookie in the future; if we ever add one, we'll update this section and provide a consent mechanism where legally required.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change what data we collect or how we use it, we'll update this page and update the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will also be communicated by email to active account holders.
